Illuminated Adventure Playground for a New Public Space

About the Project and the Process

The project was developed as a complete public play destination, not just a collection of separate play products.

The design approach focused on movement, imagination, accessibility and a strong visual identity that would suit a growing urban community.

The main play structure was planned as a forest-like adventure space, with vertical towers, connecting bridges, rope tunnels, climbing nets, slides and discovery routes.

Children can move through the structure in different ways, choosing between easier routes, more challenging climbing paths and shared social play.

The playground was designed to welcome many users at once, including children of different ages and abilities, families and caregivers. It combines adventure play with accessible platforms, varied swinging opportunities and additional movement-based elements that encourage balance, confidence and interaction.

A distinctive part of the project is the lighting integrated into the play equipment. Lighting is included in the main structure and the swing area. It is app-operated, allowing control of colors and operating times. This is a proprietary lighting concept developed by Spring playgrounds, initiated and proposed by the brand as part of the design vision.

The lighting enhances the roofs, passages, slides and bird-inspired details, giving the playground a warm and memorable atmosphere after dark.

Highlights/Uniqueness of the Project

The strength of this project is the way it combines adventure, inclusion and atmosphere. The playground offers a rich physical experience with climbing, crawling, sliding, balancing and swinging, while maintaining a clear and inviting layout.

The integrated lighting gives the playground an additional identity beyond daytime use. It turns architectural and decorative elements into part of the experience, making the space feel magical, visible and active in the evening.

The playground was required to provide a central public play area for a new community. The client needed a large, innovative and visually impressive environment with equipment suitable for a wide age range, wheelchair accessibility, inclusive use, durability for intensive public activity and a design language connected to urban nature and birds.

Design Phase

The design phase focused on placing the main multi-age structure as the central anchor of the playground. It includes climbing nets, bridges, crawling passages, tower-to-tower movement, a spiral slide, a toddler slide, an accessible slide connection, play panels, an accessibility ramp and play balconies.

Around the central structure, varied swings were added, including toddler seats, seats for older children and an accessible basket swing. Additional spring and standing balance elements complete the activity mix and give children more ways to move, interact and play.

Design Concept

The design concept draws from treehouses, adventure forests and bird life. Tall towers with pointed roofs, green and brown tones, net passages and elevated connections create the feeling of moving through a playful natural environment. Bird-inspired decorative details add a sense of journey, freedom and storytelling.

The green color palette, bright safety surfacing, organic shapes and strong vertical forms create a playground with a clear public presence.

By day, it is energetic, imaginative and full of movement. By evening, the integrated lighting adds atmosphere and turns the space into a glowing, memorable playground experience.
