About the Project and the Process

Integrated LED Lighting: Designed In, Not Added On

In many public spaces, the evening hours are the true test of a playground. In this project, we developed a compact, carefully planned space designed to work beautifully after dark. The heart of the site is a combined play structure with integrated LED lighting engineered directly into the equipment, meaning the light is not an external add-on, it is built into the design.

From the start, lighting was planned as part of the playground’s overall design language: precisely placed lighting points, selected features highlighted with purpose, and a consistent evening identity that adds depth and presence in the public realm. The intention was to create a welcoming after-dark atmosphere without making the space feel loud or overstated, and without relying only on standard street lighting.

This integrated approach makes evening use a natural extension of the experience and creates a playground that feels active, comfortable, and connected to its surroundings throughout the day and into the evening.

Highlights of the Project

After Dark Experience, Practical Operation, and Public Space Comfort

The lighting approach is built around three core outcomes:

A comfortable after-dark experience - the playground remains lively, welcoming, and clearly defined as daylight fades.
Practical operation - a structured lighting solution that aligns with site infrastructure and day-to-day operational needs.
Atmosphere without excess - added visibility and character in the public realm, without making the playground feel loud or overstated.

The result is a controlled, elegant evening presence - a subtle, balanced layer of light that simply feels right.

Planning Phase: LED Integration as Part of the Structure

To keep the lighting natural, it was designed together with the structure, not introduced later. During planning, lighting points were selected, the features to be highlighted were defined, and the evening look was shaped to sit naturally in the space. The solution also supports infrastructure flexibility, depending on site conditions and planning requirements.

Design Impact: Light That Elevates Panels, Lines, and Signature Details

The lighting does more than illuminate - it adds dimension. It emphasizes the structure’s contours, enhances panels and decorative elements, and creates depth you notice immediately when entering the playground. The key is integration: light that respects the design rather than taking it over, delivered in a measured way that feels both calm and celebratory, and gives the space a distinctive after-dark identity.
