Children and Toddlers Play Space

Spring playgrounds delivered the design and execution of a spacious public playground for children and toddlers, planned as a multi-experience environment for everyday community use. The scheme includes an impressive central play structure with a distinctive roof element, a wide selection of climbing and sliding activities, and a separate play unit intended for younger children. Additional movement play components complete the setting and support varied use across age groups.

About the Project and the Process

Spring playgrounds approached this project as the creation of a broad public play environment that would combine strong visual presence with practical play value.

From the outset, the intention was to organise the site around one dominant play feature while also introducing a second structure better suited to younger children.

The central unit was designed to offer layered activity through vertical movement, internal transitions, climbing routes, sliding options, and different forms of physical engagement. The secondary unit complements this by providing a more approachable play experience in terms of scale and use.

This combination allows the playground to respond well to families with children of different ages. The planning and execution process focused on shaping a playground that feels clear, generous, and well structured, while still delivering a dynamic and stimulating experience within the public realm.

A key quality of the project is the visual impact of the main structure, especially its prominent roof form, which helps define the character of the playground and gives it a recognizable identity within the space.

The project also stands out through the integration of transparent printed panels decorated with gentle animal imagery. These details contribute an additional visual layer that softens the larger structure and brings a more playful, story-oriented atmosphere to the overall experience.

Equally important is the separation between the larger activity zone and the area designed for younger children. This makes the playground easier to use, more balanced in its play offering, and better suited to mixed-age daily use.

Design Phase

Design Concept

The design concept is based on a combination of height, visibility, and playful detailing. The central structure introduces a strong vertical presence, while the overall palette balances natural tones with brighter accents that enliven the play environment.

Printed transparent panels with animal graphics add a softer and more narrative visual dimension, complementing the physical play elements rather than competing with them. The final result is a public playground with a clear design language, varied play value, and an inviting atmosphere for children and toddlers.
